Cyril John Robertson was born in 1895 and educated at Charterhouse. He enlisted in 1914 as a Private in the Northumberland Yeomanty, and was commissioned into the Royal Field Artillery in July 1915, subsequently serving with the 1st Northumbrian Brigade R.F.A. (T.F.).
