Auction Catalogue
Newfoundland, Victoria, Cent, 1888, last 8 over a 3. About fine and clear, the overdate particularly apparent, believed previously unrecorded (£50-100)
Prior to 1890 the digit 8 punch used on bronze coins of Newfoundland was mis-shapen (cf. Norweb Canadian catalogue, Bowers & Merena, lot 541); considerable repunching of the date figures does occur on issues through the 1880s, though overdates are virtually unknown
