France, c.1930. France/Egypt. Philæ, a large bronze medal by M. Delannoy for Arthus-Bertrand, seated figure of Isis, reverse exterior of the temple at Philæ dedicated to Isis, 110mm. Extremely fine and a most handsome production, very rare (£180-220)

Philæ was a small island in the middle of the River Nile in south-eastern Egypt, the site of an important complex of ancient Egyptian monuments, including the Temple of Isis and relics from the late Ptolemaic and Roman Imperial periods. Philæ was flooded after the completion and opening of the Aswan Dam
