Major William John Brooke was the son of Lady Wilhelmina Brooke of Haughton Hall, Shifnal, Shropshire. He was badly wounded some time in 1917, a year in which he also lost his only son as the result of an accident at school. The Battalion War Diary records that he was killed at 11am during the German Spring offensive. ‘Officers Died’ states, died of wounds, France and Flanders, 9 April 1918, whilst attached to the 21 Battalion Middlesex Regiment from the 3rd Battalion King’s Shropshire Light Infantry. He is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium. Sold with further research details.
