India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Perak (C. M. Johnson, Engr., R.N., H.M.S. Thistle) good very fine £250-300

Charles Malcolm Johnson, A.M.I.C.E., M.I.M.E., entered the Royal Navy as an Assistant Engineer in February 1859 and was advanced to Engineer in March 1866. His subsequent participation in the Perak operations of 1875-76, aboard H.M.S. Thistle, resulted in him being specially promoted to Chief Engineer for ‘important services’ (Lean’s Navy List refers). Johnson eventually reached the pinnacle of his chosen profession, retiring as a Chief Inspector of Machinery in January 1896.
