B.E.M. London Gazette 19 April 1945. The recommendation states:

‘As M.T. Sergeant of the unit he has carried great responsibility during three years overseas service. Since the beginning of the year when the spares position began to get very difficult, he has worked tirelessly to keep all vehicles on the road. He has set a very high standard of keenness, enthusiasm and devotion to duty and by his example and cheerfulness under most difficult conditions he has encouraged those working with him. The freedom from accidents and the high state of efficiency of the M.T. of his unit are mainly due to his efforts and have contributed in a very high degree to the satisfactory completion of the works for which the unit has been responsible.’

Arthur William Whitlock was serving in 159 Railway Construction Company, R.E. at the time of the above recommendation.
