A D.B.E. group of three attributed to Lady Louisa Belle Cox - for services in Iraq

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, D.B.E. (Civil) Dame Commander’s 1st type set of insignia, breast star, silver, silver-gilt and enamel; shoulder badge, silver-gilt and enamel, on ‘bow and tails’ ribbon; Delhi Durbar 1911, silver, on bow ribbon; British Red Cross Society War Commemorative Medal 1914-18, with top bar, all unnamed, the last three mounted together as worn, with Garrards, London case of issue for the D.B.E., good very fine (4) £1600-1800

D.B.E. London Gazette 2 June 1923. ‘Belle, Lady Cox, O.B.E., for services in Iraq.’

Louisa Belle Hamilton was the daughter of Surgeon-General J. B. Hamilton, R.A.M.C. She was educated privately in Switzerland. In 1889 she married Sir Percy Z. Cox, G.C.M.G., G.C.I.E., K.C.S.I. With him she travelled extensively in India, Somaliland, Iraq and Persia. In 1923 she was created a D.B.E. for her services in Iraq - her husband being High Commissioner in Mesopotamia, 1920-23. Sir Percy Cox died on 20 February 1937; Lady Louisa Belle Cox died on 30 August 1956. With copied research.
