Lynch’, with ‘No. 13 ‘ clasp on ribbon, in case of issue; with masonic apron and with mourning rosettes, in leather case inscribed in gilt, ‘Bro. Wm. J. Lynch, Union Waterloo Lodge No. 13’, very fine and better (lot) £220-260

James Alexander Claydon Cox

James Alexander Claydon Cox was born in Islington, London in 1881 and enlisted in the Army at London on 5 December 1900. During the Boer War he served as a Private in the R.A.M.C., entering South Africa in July 1901. Appointed 3rd Class Orderly, April 1901; Lance-Corporal, November 1903; Corporal, October 1904; Lance-Serjeant, April 1911 and Serjeant in July 1913. Awarded the Universal Cookery & Food Association Silver Medal in 1911 for Army Hospital Cookery. In the Great War he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 25 August 1914 as a Serjeant in the R.A.M.C., attached to the 11th General Hospital. For his wartime services he was mentioned in Haig’s despatches, 16 March 1919. Attained the rank of Temporary Warrant Officer Class II on 26 November 1919. Held the specialist qualification of Superintending Cook. Discharged with the rank of Quartermaster Serjeant, 4 December 1921. At the time of his discharge he was in possession of the above medals plus one red and three blue chevrons (not with lot). Soon after the war he was Chef at the Ministry of Pensions Hospital.

Together with copied m.i.c. Documents are damaged, repaired and fragile.

Charles Lynch

Brother-in-law to the above. Served in the Rifle Brigade during the war. Awarded the British War and Victory Medal. With copied m.i.c.

William Jonathan Lynch

Father-in-law to J. A. C. Cox. Born on 26 June 1851, the son of William and Emma Lynch. Died at Hackney, 27 September 1901.
