Harold Casamajor Davies was born in London in February 1879, the son of Major T. H. Davies of Odiham Close, Hampshire.

Appointed 2nd Lieutenant in the Welsh Regiment in March 1900, direct from the 4th (Militia) Battalion, South Wales Borderers, he witnessed active service in South Africa with the 1st Battalion, including the action at Belfast (Queen’s Medal & 3 clasps; King’s Medal & 2 clasps).

Having then resigned his commission in November 1906, he was recalled from the Reserve of Officers on the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914 and went to France in the 2nd Battalion, Welsh Regiment. He was subsequently killed in action on the Aisne on 26 September 1914, when his battalion was attacked by the enemy in strength. A fellow officer later described it ‘as a very mixed fight and bullets were coming from every point of the compass.’

Davies was buried in Vendresse British Cemetery; a memorial service was held at the Parish Church, Mildenhall, Suffolk, where Davies’s widowed mother appears to have settled at Wamil Hall.
