G. W. McFadyen served with the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers in Korea and was wounded in action north of the Imjin River during the attack on Hill 217, during the first Battle of Maryang San, as part of ‘Operation Commando’, on 5 October 1951- on that day the Regiment suffered one Fusilier killed in action and 18 wounded. He subsequently transferred to the Royal Signals.
