Frederick Hodgson served with the Standerton Mounted Police and as No. 76 in D Squadron Bethune’s Mounted Infantry from 19 October 1899 to 19 November 1900. He enlisted in the Bushveldt Carbineers at Durban on 8 March 1901, and was discharged as Armourer Sergeant on 11 September 1901. He subsequently served as a Trooper in Steinaecker’s Horse.
