W. Dunn served with the 2nd Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers during the Great War and was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry at the Artes, 26 October 1918, the Battalion’s last action of the Great War (and coincidentally only 15 miles as the crow flies from the scene of their first engagement of the Great War on 26 August 1914). Total casualties for this action were 2 Officers and 6 other ranks killed and 49 wounded. (The History of the Lancashire Fusiliers 1914-18 refers).
