Pair: Private John Moore, 29th Foot

Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Chilianwala, Goojerat (John Moore, 29th Foot.); Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (J, Moore, 29th Regt.) contact marks, nearly very fine (2) £400-500

John Moore was born at Warminster, Wiltshire, in 1821, and attested there for the 21st Fusiliers on 22 February 1840, a labourer by trade. He transferred to the 29th Foot on 1 November 1847, and took part in the Punjab campaign of 1848-49, being present at the Passage of the Chenab and the battles of Chilianwala and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). He was subsequently engaged in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny in 1858, being ‘engaged with the Force under command of Colonel Turner, C.B., in the Palmau district from 6-26 December 1858 and engaged in the taking of the Bugla Mara and Panch Nudia passes.’ Private John Moore was discharged on 2 April 1861, having completed 21 years service. Sold with copied discharge papers and other research.
