Edward William Albert Hume was born in Penzance, Cornwall, on 17 April 1907 and joined the Devon Police in 1931. He served with ‘E’ Division at Teignmouth during the Second World War, when in enemy air raids the town suffered over 80 of its population killed, and over 200 houses were destroyed. He was awarded his Police Long Service Medal in 1953, and died at Torbay, Devon, in December 1972.
