John Cowan served with the 7th Battalion, Border Regiment during the Great War on the Western Front from 24 July 1915. He was discharged on 7 July 1917 (entitled to a Silver War Badge).
Sidney James Fitchett was born in Clapham, Surrey, and attested for the East Surrey Regiment at Kingston-upon-Thames. He served during the Great War with “C” Company, 9th Battalion, and was killed in action on the Western Front on 13 June 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
Thomas Edwin Martin was born in St. Pancras, London, and attested there for the East Kent Regiment. He served during the Great War with the 7th Battalion, and was killed in action on the Western Front on 18 November 1916, on which date the battalion took part in the attack on Desire Trench, in what was their final action at the Battle of the Somme. He is buried in Regina Trench Cemetery, Grandcourt, France.
John Henry Staddon was born in Broad Clyst, Devon, and attested for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps at Exeter. He served during the Great War with the 7th Battalion, and died of wounds on the Western Front on 21 April 1917. He is buried in Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
