Durham Rifle Volunteer Corps 4th Administrative Battalion Officer’s Helmet c. 1880-87, a very fine and scarce example in green cloth with rounded front peak, complete with all plated fittings, the frontal plate of crowned eight pointed star pattern with laurel overlays and title strap ‘4th A.B. Durham R.V.C’, in the centre on a ground of red felt a strung bugle horn, buff leather sweat band and attached crimson silk lining, the sweat band with inked initial ‘W.H.’, together with the original carrying tin this with traces of a paper label named to Major W. Hawdon, the frontal peak metal trim with a small split and reasonably neat repair, the carrying tin with some dents otherwise good overall condition (2) £600-800
