25th (King’s Own Border) Regiment Officer’s Helmet Plate 1878-81, a very scarce example, the gilt crowned eight pointed star back plate with laurel and Garter overlays, in the centre on a ground of black velvet and in silver Edinburgh Castle/XXV, below the Garter a silver scroll ‘Nisi Dominus Frustra’, the back plate lug fasteners were removed at some time and replaced with three screw post fasteners one of which is lacking; the screw post fittings suggest usage on the Foreign Service helmet, very slight gilt loss otherwise very good condition £350-450
