L. S. Richardson was born in Rugby, and attested there for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps. He served with the 11th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 21 July 1915, and was Mentioned in Despatches for his good work during the battle of 1916 (London Gazette 4 January 1917). Advanced to Sergeant, he was killed in action at the Battle of Cambrai on 30 November 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, France.
Henry Ivor Housley was born at Underwood, Nottinghamshire, and attested for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps. He served with the 12th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, as part of 20th Division, from 23 July 1915. He died of wounds received in the trenches at Fauquissart on 31 August 1915, and is buried in Merville Communal Cemetery, France.
Jesse Sunderland, a native of Todmorden, Lancashire, was born on 10 February 1895 and attested for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps at Rochdale, Lancashire, on 7 November 1914. He served with the 12th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, as part of 20th Light Division, from 20 July 1915; was promoted Corporal on 26 February 1917; and was awarded the Military Medal (London Gazette 22 January 1917). Posted back to England on 24 November 1917, he served with the Highland Reserve Brigade, from which he was selected for Officer training, and joined an Officer’s Cadet Battalion on 4 January 1918. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment on 25 June 1918, and subsequently joined the 1st School of Aeronautical Training at Reading. He relinquished his commission in 1919.
Ernest Bramley was born at Cinderhill, Derbyshire, and attested for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps at Nottingham. He served with the 13th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and died of wounds on 26 November 1916. he is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.
