John Nelson was born in Clydebank, Dumbartonshire, and attested for the Seaforth Highlanders at Paisley, Lanarkshire. He served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 12 October 1914, and was killed in action on the Ypres Salient on 10 November 1914. He has no known grave and is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial, France.
