A Great War 1917 ‘French theatre’ M.M. group of three awarded to Private W. Todd, 8/10th (Service) Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, later Cameron Highlanders

William Todd enlisted in the 8/10th (Service) Battalion Gordon Highlanders, in January 1916. He was ‘one of the five surviving members of the 8/10th Battalion, the Gordon Highlanders, after the battle of Ypres. Mr William Todd, of 10, Stockwell Avenue, Knaresborough, died in hospital last week [April 1967] at the age of 79. Although a native of Peebles, he had lived in Knaresborough for more than 40 years.
In France during the 1914-18 war, Mr. Todd saw action at Arras and at Ypres, where his battalion suffered heavily. Afterwards, he received the Military Medal for his courage in rallying the survivors and continuing to fight until wounded. In March, 1919, he was invalided out of the Army. During the 1939-45 war, Mr. Todd served with Knaresborough Home Guard.’ (Obituary included with the lot refers)
After recuperating from his wounds during the Great War, Todd subsequently transferred to the 1st Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. He was discharged 20 March 1919 (entitled to Silver War Badge).
Sold with 2 original photographs of recipient in uniform (including one at a convalescence home), and original newspaper cutting of obituary.
