George Pearse Mortimer was born in Dunsford, Devon, in 1877 and attested for the Imperial Yeomanry in London on 7 February 1900. He served with the 47th (Duke of Cambridge’s Own) Company, 13th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa during the Boer War from 1 March 1900 to 7 June 1901, being taken Prisoner of War at Lindley on 31 May 1900. Released, he was discharged at Belfast on 15 June 1901, after 1 year and 129 days’ service.
