Cecil Arundel Furness was born in Chelsea, London, in 1881 and attested for the Imperial Yeomanry at Aldershot on 12 April 1902, whilst currently serving in the 1st Middlesex Volunteers. He served with the 145th Company, 32nd Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa during the Boer War from 8 May 1902 to 7 January 1903, and was discharged at Aldershot on 14 January 1903, after 278 days’ service.
