George Todd was born in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, and attested for the Oxfordshire Light Infantry at the town of his birth in August 1893. He served with the 2nd Battalion in India, October 1895 - October 1905. Todd was discharged 30 October 1905, having served 12 years and 76 days with the Colours.

Todd re-engaged for service with the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in May 1914. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion in the French theatre of war from 13 September 1914. He received gunshot wounds to the head and left thumb, 14 November 1914. Subsequent service included with 1st and 3rd Battalions, before being attached to the Worcestershire Regiment. He was discharged due to wounds, 30 August 1917 (entitled to Silver War Badge).

Frank Todd was the younger brother of George Todd, and he served with the 1st Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry during the Second Boer War. He transferred to the 2nd Battalion for service during the Great War, and served with them in the French theatre of war from 12 September 1914. Subsequent service included with the Royal Berkshire Regiment and the West Kent Yeomanry.
