John Richard Caudwell was born in Stoke-on-Trent on 4 June 1896, and attested into the Royal Engineers on 12 April 1915. Posted to the 144 Army Troops Company, he served during the Great War on the Western Front from 7 October 1915, and was demobilised on 11 February 1919, returning to his former trade of shoe/boot maker. He served during the Second World War with the Air Raid Precautions, and died on 1 March 1953.
Sold with the recipient’s Certificate of Transfer to the Reserve; National Registration Identity Card; Beret adorned with various military, sweetheart, and scouting badges; Service Chevrons; a large quantity of photographs and letters; two Military Bibles; Vesta and Cigarette Case; and various other ephemera.
