A C.I.E., M.V.O. group of seven awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel C. W. Waddington, late Principal of Mayo College, Indian Army Remount Department

The Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire, C.I.E., Companion’s 3rd type neck badge, gold and enamel, possibly an officially converted breast badge; The Royal Victorian Order, M.V.O., Member’s 4th Class breast badge, officially numbered ‘866’; British War Medal (Lt. Col. C. W. Waddington.); Delhi Durbar 1903, silver; Coronation 1911; Jubilee 1935; Coronation 1937, these last six mounted as worn; together with companion group of seven mounted miniatures and his Gold Staff for the Coronation of 1911, 768mm. long wooden staff painted in red and gold, embellished with the cypher of King George V, the C.I.E. with dented back-plate and chips to enamel, otherwise very fine or better (15) £1400-1800

Charles Willoughby Waddington was born on 29 December 1865, eldest son of Major-General Thomas Waddington,. J.P., I.S.C. He was educated at Charterhouse (Scholar) and Oriel College, Oxford (Scholar); passed B.A. 1888, M.A. 1889. He joined the Indian Educational Service and was Principal, Gujerat College, Ahmedabad, 1889-92; Principal, Rajkumar College, Rajkot, 1892-1903; Principal, Mayo College, Ajmer, 1903-16; Indian Army Remount Department 1916-18; Secretary, Food Control Board, Simla, 1918-19; Guardian to H.H. the Maharaja of Jodhpur 1919-23; Guardian to Maharaj Kumar of Jodhpur 1933-37. He died in London on 19 July 1946.
