James Dowie Glegg arrived in France on 25 September 1914, while serving as a 2nd Lieutenant, 2nd Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, on attachment to the Connaught Rangers. In addition to his subsequent award of the M.C., he was also mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 5 July 1919, refers) and awarded the Belgian Croix de Guerre (Services of Military Officers, 1920, refers).
