Joseph Heywood, a native of Salford, served on the Western Front with the 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 3 May 1917 during his battalion’s final actions in the Battle of Arras and is buried in Brown’s Copse Cemetery, France.

John Edwin Richardson was born in Rochdale, Lancashire, and enlisted into the 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, serving on the Western Front from April 1915. He was mortally wounded and invalided home where he died from his wounds at Harrogate Infirmary on 17 April 1916. He is buried in Rochdale Cemetery, Lancashire.

Walter Howorth, a native of Bury, Lancashire, served with the 1/5th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He originally landed in Egypt on 25 September 1914, before proceeding to Gallipoli to 5 May 1915. He was killed in action on 8 May 1915 following the battalion’s first attack on Gurkha Bluff, Cape Helles. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.

Hubert Brett was born in Walworth, Surrey and lived in Loughborough prior to enlisting into 3rd (Reserve) Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He first served on the Western Front with the 17th (Service) Battalion (1st South East Lancashire) before being posted to the 10th (Service) Battalion. He was killed in action on 6 July 1916 during the battalion’s attack on Quadrangle Support Trench and Pearl Alley, where they lost 407 men. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.

Edward Kew originally served with the Lancashire Fusiliers before transferring to the Labour Corps.

Harry Ryan, a native of Rochdale, served on the Western Front with the 5th and 2nd Battalions Lancashire Fusiliers between October and December 1916, when he was invalided home suffering with ‘trench foot’. He later transferred to the Labour Corps, returning to France in July 1917.

George Barnes served on the Western Front with the 10th (Service) Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He appears as wounded on the 4 June 1918 Casualty List.

Arthur Warhurst served on the Western Front with 1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, later being posted to the 10th (Service) Battalion.

Fred Dickinson landed at Gallipoli with the 1/5th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers on 5 May 1915. He later transferred to the Labour Corps.

Walter Charles Collyer was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant with the Royal Garrison Artillery on 29 April 1918. He served in Palestine from 10 October 1918.
