Frederick Arthur Burridge was born in Norwich in 1896 and attested for the Army Service Corps during the Great War in Gallipoli from 29 July 1915. For his services during the Great War he was Mentioned in Despatches for his services with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force (London Gazette 6 July 1917), was advanced Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant, and was awarded an ‘Immediate’ Meritorious Service Medal. He re-enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps on 23 January 1919 following the cessation of hostilities, and was commissioned Lieutenant (Quartermaster) on 22 February 1938. He was promoted Acting Major, Extra Regimentally Employed List, in March 1940, and was shortly afterwards appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire whilst serving as an Assistant Adjutant General in the Adjutant-General’s Department. He was advanced an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 1946 New Year’s Honours’ List, and retired with the honorary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel on 1 September 1948.
