Patrick Tyrell was born at Kilcock, Co. Kildare and enlisted in the Irish Guards in October 1915, aged 21 years. Initially posted to the 3rd Reserve Battalion, he was transferred to the 2nd Battalion in September 1916, going out to France on the 27th of that month. Here he remained until being evacuated home after being wounded in the left shouder on 31 July 1917. Returning to the Front in March 1918 for service with the 1st Battalion, he was fatally wounded on 27 September, and died the following day. Tyrell was interred in Grevillers British Cemetery, France.
