Army of India 1799-1826, 1 clasp, Bhurtpoor (R. Whye, 14th Foot), short hyphen reverse, officially impressed naming, replacement suspension post, contact marks and edge bruising, good fine £350-400

Richard Whye was born in the Parish of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and enlisted in the 14th Foot in November 1808, aged 10 years. Appointed a Drummer in February 1811, aged 13 years, and a Corporal in May 1815, he fought with the Regiment at Waterloo and was present at the surrender of Cambray. Shortly afterwards assigned to India with the 3rd Battalion, Whye served in the Deccan operations, was present at the capture of Hatrass in February 1817 and was advanced to Sergeant in September 1821. He was, however, reduced to Private in the following year, but went on to participate in the siege and storming of Bhurtpoor, the Waterloo veterans of the Regiment famously wearing their Medals on the latter occasion. Whye was finally discharged as a Private back in Ireland in November 1834, having once again been reduced from N.C.O. status.
