Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (Major J. M. Nicolls, M.B., R.A.M.C.) mounted as worn, nearly extremely fine £140-160

John Michael Nicolls was born in 1859 and gained a B.A., M.B. and B.Ch. Employed in the Army as a Surgeon , afterward, Surgeon-Captain in 1885, he was promoted Surgeon-Major in 1897. A Major in the R.A.M.C. in 1897, he attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1905 and was placed on Retired Pay the following year. In the Boer War he served in operations in the Cape and Orange River Colonies in April 1901 and in the Transvaal between April 1901 - May 1902.
