60th Foot Monthly Return 1756, a rare original Monthly Return for the 60th Regiment of Foot, dated June 1st, 1756, prepared for the Secretary of War, in ink on official printed form, listing the names of the officers, both present and absent, and the numbers of effective rank and file by company, signed by Robert Anstruther, Commanding the 60th Regiment, folded but otherwise in excellent condition for age £50-100

In 1755 the requirements of the Seven Years’ War necessitated an increase in the strength of the army and it was decided to raise eleven additional regiments of foot. As a result, on 28 December 1755 Colonel Robert Anstruther (late Lieutenant-Colonel of the 26th Foot) was commissioned to raise a regiment which was given the number ‘60’ in the order of precedence. In 1757, by reason of the disbanding of the 50th and 51st Regiments, the 60th Foot were raised in rank to become the 58th Regiment of the Line, later the 2nd Battalion of the Northamptonshire Regiment.
