A group of eight to Sergeant Brunon Szleifer, Polish Forces

Poland, Cross of Valour, unnumbered; Cross of Merit, 3rd Class, with swords; Army Active Service Medal; France, Volunteer Combatant’s Cross 1914-1918; France, War Commemorative Medal 1939-45; G.B., 1939-45 Star; France & Germany Star; Defence Medal, all except first inscribed, ‘Sgt. B. Schleifer’, together with silver Polish cap badge, good very fine and better (9) £100-140

Sold with original named award documents / cards for French Croix des Combattants Volontaires and War Commemorative Medal and British 1939-45 Star. With copied research papers confirming the award of the Polish and British medals.

Brunon Szleifer was born in 1908 at Swiecie, Pomorze, Poland. A car driver by trade, he served in the Polish Army in Poland from 25.8.1939 to 21.9.1939. Rejoining the Polish Army in France on 2.5.1940, he came under British command in the United Kingdom on 1.7.1940. He was awarded the Cross of Valour whilst serving with the Polish 10th Cavalry Brigade in the French Campaign of 1940. He served in the U.K. until 29.7.1944 and then in N.W. Europe until 30.5.1947. Between 8.8.1944 and 8.5.1945 he served with the 1st Armoured Regiment of the Polish 1st Armoured Division, during which time he was awarded the Cross of Merit. He was discharged in 1949.
