James Gray was born at Datchet, Windsor, and attested for the Grenadier Guards at Windsor on 16 September 1852, aged 20 years. He received his L.S. & G.C. medal in October 1871, and was discharged in London on 22 September 1873. Sold with copy service papers, full confirmation of medals, and several extracts from the regimental journal which record his presence at several Inkermann dinners and his funeral, which took place on 11 November 1901.
