Francis Joseph Fenning was born in 1891 and was by profession an Electrical and Marconi Engineer. Living in Chelmesford, Essex, he enlisted as a Private in the 2nd battalion Irish Guards on 25.9.1914. In May 1915 he received a commission in the King’s African Rifles and entered the East African theatre of war in September 1916. As a Captain with the 7th (attached 3rd) battalion Dorsetshire Regiment, Fenning was discharged as unfit for further service in late 1918 suffering from the effects of sunstroke, malaria and dysentery. Sold with copied service papers.
