Frederick Ralph Nethersole was born 17 August 1865, and educated at Sutton Valence and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He was first commissioned into the Royal Irish Regiment in January 1889, and transferred to the Indian Army in August 1890, being posted to the 17th Bengal Infantry. In April 1892 he joined the Burma Military Police as Assistant Commandant and took part in the operations in the Kachin Hills 1892-93 (Medal with clasp). He was appointed Commandant in February 1896 but rejoined the 17th Bengal Infantry in 1897-98. He was appointed to the Burma Commission as Assistant Commissioner in January 1899, becoming Deputy Commissioner, Tharrawaddy, in November 1912. Nominated a Companion of the Indian Empire in January 1920, his final appointment was as Commissioner of the Pegu Division, Burma, before retiring in February 1921. Lieutenant-Colonel Nethersole died on 6 July 1933.
