Order of the Redeemer (Greece) London Gazette 24 May 1919: Payr. Lieut. (Act. Payr. Lieut.-Cdr.) Royal Navy.
Henry Leigh Jackson was born on 7 April 1886, and entered the Royal Navy as an Assistant Clerk in July 1903. He served during the Great War as Paymaster Lieutenant on board the battleship Erin from August 1914 until December 1916, seeing action at the battle of Jutland. On 5 December 1916 he was appointed Secretary to Commodore C. F. Lambert in H.M.S. Southampton, and in the same capacity aboard H.M.S. Birmingham ffrom April 1917, and in H.M.S. Lord Nelson from February 1918, by which time Lambert had become a Rear-Admiral and Commander-in-Chief of the Aegean Squadron, and Jackson a Paymaster Lieutenant-Commander. Throughout the period of his association with Lambert, going back to 1905, that officer consistently spoke of Jackson in the highest possible terms and unsurprisingly chose him as his secretary. From February 1919, Jackson was seconded for service with the Royal Air Force with the rank of Squadron Leader, being rewarded by the Air Ministry with a C.B.E.
Promoted to Paymaster Commander in April 1925, Jackson retired in April 1936 as a Paymaster Captain. Recalled for service during the Second World War, he received a Letter of Praise from the Admiralty for operation ‘Neptune’. Sold with further research.
