0.Philip Herbert, was born in 1867, the son of George Herbert, a barrister-at-law. Appointed Commander, R.N.V.R. in March 1915, he served aboard the hired yacht Ilex from that date, then on the accommodation ship Boadicea from July 1915, special service at Egmont (Malta base) from January 1916 and at the Admiralty from January 1917. Awarded the O.B.E. (London Gazette 7.1.1918) ‘for services in connection with the war’. After the war he was a J.P. for Devon
