Stephen (1135-1154), Cut Halfpenny, East Midlands variant, Lincoln (?), possibly Godwinus, bust right, holding sceptre, rev. long cross breaking legend, saltire within quadrilateral in centre, fleurs in angles, 0.57g/11h (EMC 2013.0117; Mack 186-7; N 899/1; S 1290B). Legends flat, otherwise good fine, extremely rare £200-£300
Provenance: Found in Lincolnshire 2012.
Although Mack attributed his 186 to Exeter, the presence of that coin in the Sheldon (Derbyshire) Hoard suggests a possible East Midlands connection. The findspot of this present specimen reinforces that likelihood
