Roman Imperial Coinage, Carausius, Antoninianus, ‘C’ mint, three-quarters facing, draped and cuirassed bust, imp caravsivs p f avg, rev. pax avg, Pax standing left, holding olive-branch in right hand and vertical sceptre in left, 3.82g (RIC –; Sear –). Fine with green patina, extremely rare £4,000-£5,000

The significance of this coin was not realised until quite some time after it was found during cleaning - hence the exact find-spot is not known. It would appear that of the nine or so known facing bust types, this is the first complete pax avg reverse type as opposed to the more usual salvs avg type. This coin is to be included in the a forthcoming BNJ Coin Register
