Army L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (5282 Bandmaster W. F. Cooper. R. G. Regt.) scratch marks in obverse field, very fine £60-£80

William Fisher Cooper was born in Edinburgh, and attested aged 15 for the 55th Brigade at the city of his birth, in January 1881. Cooper transferred to the 1st Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, in July of the same year. He was appointed Bandsman in June 1883, and advanced to Band Sergeant in November 1887.

Cooper transferred as Bandmaster to the 2nd Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers in December 1892. He transferred to the Royal Garrison Regiment in June 1902 (L.S. & G.C. awarded October 1903), and served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers at Home. Cooper was discharged, 4 April 1916, having served for 35 years.
