George Glover was born in the Parish of Ovingham, Northumberland, and enlisted into the 61st Foot on 4 August 1806, aged 23, a shoemaker by trade. The muster rolls for 25 July to 25 September, 1809, record him as having been wounded at Talavera. He was discharged at Dundalk on 16 October 1814, in consequence of a ‘wound in the knee received at the battle of Toulouse in France, 10 April 1814.’
