Sir Cusack Walton was born on 26 February 1878, the son of F. T. G. Walton, Esq., C.I.E., and was educated at Clifton College, and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. he was commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1897, and arrived in India in October 1899, for the Military Works Services, and was appointed to the North-Western Railway Company as Assistant Engineer 3rd Grade. He served on State Railways in India from 1901 until the outbreak of the Great War, being advanced Assistant Engineer 1st Grade in 1906, an Executive Engineer in March 1908. Following the outbreak of the Great War he served on the Western Front from 8 February 1915; was four times Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazettes 1 January 1916; 15 June 1916; 18 May 1917; and 11 December 1917); was promoted Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel; and was awarded the D.S.O. and the French Legion of Honour.
Following the cessation of hostilities Walton retuned to India, where he was appointed Agent of the North-Western Railway in 1924, and was awarded the Belgian Order of the Crown the following year. He retired 1933, being appointed a Knight Bachelor on retirement. He subsequently served as Hon. Secretary India, Ceylon, and Iran Missions, Church Missionary Society, from 1934 to 1938. Colonel Sir Cusack Walton died on 27 February 1966.
Julia Margaret, Lady Walton (née Gardner), the daughter of the Rev. D. M. Gardner, Indian Civil Service, married Cusack Walton in 1909, was awarded the silver Kaisar-i-Hind Medal upon her husband’s retirement in 1933.
