Frederic Evans attested for the Essex Regiment and served with the 2nd Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War. He was subsequently employed as a Postman in Norwich, and was awarded his Imperial Service Medal upon his retirement in 1935 (London Gazette 12 February 1935).
