81 Immediate Meritorious Service Medals awarded to the Army Pay Corps for the Great War, of which only 11 were awarded for service on the Western Front.
M.S.M. London Gazette 3 June 1919:
‘In recognition of valuable services rendered with the Armies in France and Flanders.’
William Edward Carlile attested for the Army Pay Corps in Liverpool, and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 10 August 1914. Given his very early entry into the War, it is likely that he was part of the advance party of the General Headquarters.
