Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (1798 Jas. Steen 57th. Foot) edge nicks, light scratches to reverse, good very fine £70-£90
James Syeen was born in Antrim in 1826 and attested for the 57th (West Middlesex) Regiment of Foot at Belfast on 28 January 1845. He served with the Regiment in Corfu, the Crimea (entitled to the Crimea Medal with clasps for Inkermann and Sebastopol), Malta, and India. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, together with a gratuity of £5, in August 1865, and was discharged on 8 May 1866, after 21 years and 101 days’ service.
