D.C.M. London Gazette 1 January 1919 (details appearing in the Gazette of 3 September 1919):
‘For exceptional zeal and devotion to duty and cheerfulness under all circumstances. His willingness to undertake front line work, and the wonderful example invariably set by him under difficult circumstances, and in many cases under frequent and heavy shell fire, have had the most inspiring effect on his whole unit.’
John Blyth was a native of Alford, Lincolnshire. He served during the Great War with the Royal Engineers in the French theatre of war from 20 November 1915.
