‘On 11 January 1830, Mr. John Morgan, the Chief Boatman, H.M. Coastguard, Staxigor, saved the Master, Mate, and three seamen, the full crew of the Stornoway brig Mary, which had gone ashore at Thurso in a storm. With two other coastguardmen Mr. Morgan rigged a rope and brought them ashore to safety. They had been in the rigging upwards of seven hours.’
