‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He repeatedly carried up bombs to the front line under very heavy fire. He was wounded.’
Robert Gilmour attested for the Northumberland Fusiliers, and served with the 2nd/7th Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 18 May 1915. Proceeding to Egypt as a Garrison Battalion following the withdrawal from Gallipoli, he transferred to the Scottish Rifles, and served with the 1st/8th Battalion with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, being awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his gallantry at Mudros in 1917.
