John Hiram Guppy served with the Fleet Air Arm, including with 845 Naval Air Squadron in Borneo. The Squadron operated as a Commando Helicopter Squadron flying Westland Wessex’s over Borneo between 1962-1965. Helping troops to patrol huge areas, the Squadron acquired the nickname ‘Junglies’ as a consequence of their time operating over Borneo.
Guppy subsequently served at H.M.S. Seahawk (R.N.A.S. Culdrose, Cornwall), and advanced to Chief Petty Officer Aircrewman.
Approximately 5 A.F.M.’s awarded to the Royal Navy 1953-1979.
